We had heard about this amazing store for ages, but finally, in preparation for Harry Potter Day at Disneyland we ventured over to Whimsic Alley in Santa Monica, which is… ironically.. only 5 minutes from our house!
The store is intricately designed to be a mini version of Diagon Alley, with heavy wooden bookcases, tall metal candelabras, and plenty of wizarding gear for the Harry Potter enthusiast.
Being huge nerds, we nearly cried when we stepped into the store, to be greeted by a cute display with Dobby, the annoying house elf, mannequins dressed in wizard livery, and a cool Azkaban poster that moved!
The staff at Whimsic Alley were very enthusiastic and friendly. We were informed that one of the staff runs “Dumbledore’s Army,” a meet-up group that has Harry Potter-themed events around Los Angeles! We are totally joining…!
We were also informed that they were currently scouting locations to create the Great Hall from the Potter novels, as a place to rent out for parties, or just to have fans lounge around in. WE CANNOT WAIT!
If you’d like to head over and visit Whimsic Alley sometime soon, October 24th, would be perfect, because they are hosting the Whomp the House Tour, featuring Harry Potter-fan-bands The Whomping Willows, The Remus Lupins, and Justin Finch Fletchley. The event will take place behind the store, and starts at 4pm, admission free!
