Painting a Moment in Cute

On Saturday, July 10th, we attended the amazing gallery opening for Natalia Fabia‘s “Fashionable Aftertaste Without End,” along with huge crowds of art lovers, at the Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City.

The gallery was jam packed with guests enjoying the amazing artwork she had created over the past year for this opening. We had never seen this gallery quite as full as it was this night.

All of Natalia’s works were inspired by her love of all things “kawaii” and Eastern. The models in all of her work, whom she always refers to as “hookers”, are friends of hers she has encountered who represent strong and beautiful womanhood in the current world.

We were lucky enough to be approached by Natalia to be immortalized by her classically trained painting techniques into a beautiful work of art. Seeing the work brought tears to our eyes.

"Sweet Lolita"

Natalia also created an enormous chandelier created from laser-cut plexiglass, sparkling pink chain, and thousands of Swarovski crystals. We would kill to have something like that in our house!

Before the gallery even opened, Natalia had sold 8 of her 12 new pieces she created for this collection. We were happily informed that our painting, “Happy Friend Tree,” sold to a private collector in Hong Kong!

A delish Rilakkuma cake!

You can see more photos from the night at our Flickr page.

The gallery will continue to show these wonderful pieces until August 11th, so please take some time to see them before they make their way across the world!

Natalia Fabia’s “Fashionable Aftertase Without End” July 10, 2010

A few months ago, Natalia Fabia approached Bubble Punch and asked us to pose for her for a painting. She is such a sweetheart and wonderfully talented artist, so of course we said yes! The painting will be shown this Saturday July 10th at Corey Helford Gallery in Culver City.

Taken from Juxtapoz.com

Natalia Fabia (Juxtapoz #103) highly anticipated solo, Fashionable Aftertaste Without End, is fast approaching. We just got our hands on two new preview images from the new series inspired by a trip to Japan.

Here’s a sneakpeak of the painting we posed for that Juxtapoz posted:

So if you are in town, please come by Saturday night and check out her show. There are also other amazing pieces featuring plenty of our Lolita friends, and one our fashionista maven Mandy of Zippercut.

Break out the Absinthe, Alice.

We had the pleasure of being invited to Royal/T’s “The Never Ending Story, Fairytale, Fantasy, Obsession” Exhibit last night.  It was not short of fairy tales, fantasy, or those obsessed with all things Goth-themed Alice, delicious treats, and Jared Gold related goodies!

The night was filled with colorful and creative outfits of various characters of the beloved “Alice in Wonderland” novels. Yume Ninja went geared up as the Red Queen from “Through The Looking Glass”, and Chubby Bunny went as nothing else but a beautiful White Rose painted red.

But what is a Gothic Alice in Wonderland themed party really, without the glorious cake?

Eat Me

Eat Me!

Polite In Public was gracious enough to man the photo booth that night. More photos of party go-ers can be seen on their online gallery from last night. They had the essential Wonderland-themed props and sexy Alices and a Queen of Hearts to round everyone up for fantastic photographs. You can also check out the article at LA Weekly by our  friend Liz Ohanesian and photos by Shannon Cottrell.

Beyond the fanciful attire and goodies to eat, Royal/T owner Susan Hancock was also giving out free spirit animal readings. We of course, had ours done. Turns out that Chubby Bunny is really a Fox, and Yume Ninja is a Hawk. It was all in good fun and right on the mark!

So to all our readers, if you get the chance, please scurry over to Royal/T to check our their current exhibit. It will run from February 05, 2010 to August 4, 2010! Also please check out the Jared Gold/Black Chandelier pop up shop! If you’re lucky you can also pick up some of the Jared Gold + Clint Catalyst (whom we both had the pleasure of meeting) Prize Ribbons. Yume Ninja particularly loves the “Hedonist” ribbon, but other equally amusing ribbons such as “EPIC”, “FTW”, and “QUEER” can be found in an array of colors.

Do enjoy this exhibit if you can, and once again thanks to Royal/T for inviting us out!

Inspired by the collection of Susan Hancock, this exhibition reflects the interests of an international group of artists over the past ten years, taking as its theme, fairy tales, and it’s contemporary expression, fantasy.
The Never Ending Story: Fairytale, Fantasy, Obsession focuses on the singular trait that can be identified in a vast majority of contemporary art produced in the U.S., Europe, and Asia over the past decade, which is a renewed interest in narrative and the depiction of recognizable objects to tell a story. The exhibit draws on the Surrealist tradition, but also equally important, on popular cultural traditions, including book illustrations and comics, showcasing contemporary artists who create works that are accessible and familiar, yet at the same time, gothic and out-of-the-ordinary.

The Never Ending Story’s curator, Laura Hoptman, is Senior Curator of the New Museum of Contemporary Art, NY.

“In Bed Together” Opening party at Royal/T

On November 20th, the owner of Royal/T, Susan Hancock, graciously invited us to the private opening party of their new installation, “In Bed Together.”

Here’s a short clip from Royal/T’s news site:

In Bed Together is the realization of Curator Jane Glassmans vision for a collaborative event featuring 50 works by 50 different artists that have been selected by 50 invited art professionals. The exhibit features a full circle of professionals from within the interconnected arts community including collectors, auction house specialists, educators, curators, museum directors, advisors, critics, journalists, gallerists, and nonprofit leaders, each submitting one piece, presented with thoughtful personal texts and insight as to the purpose of their selection. By bringing together all these key characters in the arts community, In Bed Together will highlight each specific role within the art world that is critically dependent on and supportive of each other.

The exhibit itself was an eclectic mix of art of all different mediums. It was interesting to catch glimpse of who brought in what piece, though the descriptions were a bit hard to read as they were on the floor inside the exhibit space. Bring your glasses, ladies and gents!

Not only was the opening party loads of fun, and full of great art, it was also full of … FANTASTIC FOOD!! (Aside from fashion, the other thing we love most in the world…!)

Renowned chef Ludo Lefebvre was on-site showcasing his LudoBites restaurant program, as well as serving up some delicious treats with his assistant at the event. Chef Ludo is also known for his time as executive chef at L’Orangerie, where he earned the restaurant the prestigious Mobil Five Star Award. He has even competed as a contestant on Top Chef Masters on Bravo. He will be bringing his LudoBites program to Royal/T for 13 days only (all the RSVPs were filled within hours of the announcement! SAD!!)
